Because the thing that McCarthy was concerned about and fighting against - namely infiltration of the government by genuinely un-American subversives - has been ongoing for over half a century since McCarthy's death.

Believe me, Marxism is alive and well within the U.S. Government. And the reason it is, is because the American People didn't take McCarthy and the other Communist-fighters seriously enough. All of our internal security measures were dismantled way back then and have NEVER been reestablished.

I don't know if there's ANYTHING more relevant to American politics today than that same issue that McCarthy went to war against... unless it's just the general lack of undestanding of American principles on the part of the populace.

When all is said and done, I think DiscConnected is basically right: the fat, lazy, apathetic people really just don't give a damn, as long as they have time enough to play and vegetate before the boob tube. Glen Beck is certainly not the first person to have had a change of opinion after hearing new evidence or gaining new revelatory insight within themselves. Sometimes a person can be totally convinced about something based on evidence they've heard or opinions they've had. This is why I think it's more constructive to try to educate the person you think is wrong or positively demonstate where that person is mistaken if that person is not listening. I know it's difficult for most of us to do and be heard, but.....

I was listening to Beck for a short while this morning and he was talking about the Black Panthers and other radical organizations that are influencing the current administration. Mostly he was just playing clips of what spokesmen for these groups were saying and as Beck said, he was letting them condemn themselves with their own words. I don't guess this has anything to with what we were talking about but I thought I throw that in there.

In any case, I think there is a lot that Beck and others say that is important. Then, there will always be points that some of us will disagree on. Hopefully, the most logical and/or truthful side will eventually surface as the prevailing force. I think it is better to build strength with alliances than have everything fractionalized and chaotic.

What happened with Joseph McCharthy was 50 years ago and I don't know that it matters anymore for most of us. I don't know why people like to keep bringing the issue up other than out of historical interest. The McCarthy influence or movement or whatever you want to call it had some very valid points to make and they went about some things wrong as well. None of it was perfect and like most things you never really know as much as you do until you have a chance to look back on it. And even then we don't always know everything.

Anyway, keep up the interesting efforts. Just try not to let it get to you so much. But even if you do you make it kind of entertaining.

Lee
Tossing It OutArlee Birdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11663942782929929334noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1272211918278108300.post-68190578651920612602010-07-12T09:05:25.772-07:002010-07-12T09:05:25.772-07:00Well, Brother, what I was after was not so much an...Well, Brother, what I was after was not so much an opinion on Glenn Beck generally, but your reaction to him being (falsely) critical of McCarthy one day, and turning his opinion about McCarthy 180 degrees ten days later.

I mean, in my opinion, THAT is the sign of a truly irresponsible talking head. If he wasn't absolutely sure that he knew what he was talking about (which obviously he wasn't if only ten days and one book later he was contradicting himself) then he should have kept his big, fat mouth SHUT until he really did know the subject matter sufficiently. He had no business publicly taking a swipe at a dead McCarthy (unable to defend his reputation) if his knowledge of the subject was so freakin' shallow.

In other words, Marshmallow Head is just flying by the seat of his pants, and is evidently not nearly as informed as he'd like his audience to think he is, despite trying to project an aura of great expertise.

If I posted on this blog some scathing remark about someone one day and then reversed my opinion a week and half later, everyone would think me an irresponsible blogger, but Beck can do it and there won't be a peep of outrage (except from me) and it won't cost him even one of his million minions.

How do clowns like that get multi-million dollar TV contracts when a guy like me - who is revealing FAR MORE of the truth than Glenn Beck ever has - hasn't even acquired 10 blog "Followers" after two and a half years of blogging?

Well, I guess the answer is that the American People don't really WANT to know the truth, and they prefer goofy, rubbery expressions made on a marshmallow face to reading and thinking about what is REALLY wrong with their country.

Sometimes... it gets me down.

~ "Lonesome Dogg" McMeStephen T. But I guess your asking about my reaction to Glenn Beck which I given you before. Now he's one the radio in L.A., but I haven't really gotten into listening to him that much. And despite my mother's raves and a friend in TN who continually sends me links to Glen Beck, I really haven't gotten into him that much, but I'm certainly not as against him as you are.

I will comment on the 76 movie on your post that is about that topic.

Lee
Tossing It OutArlee Birdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11663942782929929334noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1272211918278108300.post-14423704461501091102010-07-11T15:29:23.548-07:002010-07-11T15:29:23.548-07:00DISCMAN ~

It would make me feel better if I could debate this subject with you and at least hold my own in disagreement. But sadly...

I can't.

There is little if any rational fight that I can put up against what you have said here. Every indication is that your viewpoint is correct.

I guess there's a small part of me, shoved into a dark, neglected corner somewhere, that would like to hold on to the possibility that, when push comes to shove, the American People are simply ignorant, simply unaware of what true Americanism really is, and what its antithesis, Socialism, really is. And if they could just be awakened to the differences of these principles, and come to understand exactly what our Founding Fathers really endorsed as the best possible form of government for a people who embrace freedom, they would fight this creeping Socialism to the last liberty-loving person.

I guess I'd like to hope that the "Americonned People" have simply been so dumbed-down, that the only reason they don't fight the prevailing winds of Socialism is because they simply don't fully understand all that it implies, all of the baggage and the life and liberty-draining repercussions that naturally result from the installation of Socialism.

But you know what, Buddy? In truth, the Americonned People probably DO understand all of that, at least well enough to know better. When all is said and done, you are probably correct, and the masses simply don't give a crap, as long as they have enough free time to enjoy the bread and circuses.

I will continue to post here, hoping that perhaps, by some slim chance, you are mistaken (even though deep down inside, I'm fairly certain you are not). But I'm afraid that all of my words are really nothing more than slight explosions of excess intestinal gas being expelled into an unconcerned and uncaring wind.

I guess maybe that makes me the biggest idiot of them all.

~ Stephen
"As a dog returns to his own vomit,
so a fool repeats his folly."
~ Proverbs 26:11Stephen T. (I almost hesitate to axe).

DISCCONNECTED ~
Ha!
Well, actually, it is a commonly known (non)fact that Senator McCarthy was the most evil American of the Twentieth Century. And he would have been known as the wickedest person in the entire world during the Twentieth Century but for ("HiHell") Hitler.

If you weren't taught that in school, it may possibly be due to the fact that McCarthy was also Catholic and was thus supported by the Catholic church better than he was by any other group of people (including his fellow Republicans). Chalk another good mark up for the Catholics.

But actually, I would argue that knowledge of what occurred during the McCarthy era IS in fact still relevant today, because the things McCarthy was trying to alert the people about are still very much ongoing today (Communist and Socialist infiltration and takeover of the U.S. Government!)

So I don't at all fault Glenn Or Glenda for teaching his/her viewership about this, but I do fault him or her for castigating McCarthy one day and lauding him 10 days later. I fault Marshmallow Head for having his head where the sun don't shine but pretending to be, oh, so informed, and so qualified to teach his viewers, when in fact, he seems to be just making it up on the fly. In my opinion, the guy is a fraud in more ways than one.

~ Stephen
"As a dog returns to his own vomit,
so a fool repeats his folly."
~ Proverbs 26:11Stephen T. I've always loved marshmallows and now I'm going to have to go downstairs and eat one.

I used to tell my second wife, "If there's food in heaven then it must be marshmallows because marshmallows are like candified clouds."

I like them plain, in hot chocolate, or as a cream spread on a sandwich with peanut butter. They're sometimes hard to find, but marshmallow milkshakes are really good. I especially like the "black and white milkshakes"--chocolate and marshmallow combined. It's kind of like "We Are the World" in a glass. Of course my all time favorite is chocolate covered marshmallow--especially those Easter eggs. Oh, and I nearly forgot Peeps.

Your post really got me thinking.

Lee
Tossing It OutArlee Birdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11663942782929929334noreply@blogger.com
